LGBTQ+ mental health — The Trevor Project research and care
The largest dedicated LGBTQ+ youth mental health organization in the U.S., with annual research that grounds the conversation in data.
The Trevor Project9 min read
The Trevor Project's annual National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People is the most-cited dataset in the field. It documents elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality — and the specific protective factors (family acceptance, access to gender-affirming care, an affirming school) that meaningfully reduce risk.
Their 24/7 crisis services (call, text, chat) operate alongside the research arm. The 988 LGBTQ+ youth subnetwork, when funded, routes to Trevor.
