New parents — the perinatal mental health spectrum

Postpartum Support International on the mood, anxiety, and OCD conditions that affect roughly one in five new parents.

Postpartum Support International8 min read

PSI is the major international organization for perinatal mental health, with a free helpline (1-800-944-4773, English and Spanish), a directory of trained perinatal mental health clinicians, and free peer-support groups including ones for partners, NICU parents, loss, and birth trauma.

PSI's framing is that postpartum depression is the most recognized of a much broader spectrum that also includes anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and (rarely) psychosis. Each gets its own page.
