Values-clarification exercises are core to acceptance and commitment therapy and useful well outside it. The Personal Values Card Sort, originally developed by Miller and Matthews at the University of New Mexico, is free, simple, and well-tested.
Especially useful when chronic low mood or anxiety has flattened the sense of direction, and the standard question 'what do you actually care about' is hard to answer cold.
