988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The U.S. federal 24/7 crisis line — call or text 988, chat at 988lifeline.org.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline3 min read

988 is the three-digit U.S. crisis number that replaced the long-form National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in 2022. It connects callers to a network of 200+ local and state crisis centers, with specialty subnetworks for Veterans (press 1), Spanish speakers (press 2), and LGBTQ+ youth (press 3).

The line is free, confidential, and does not require you to be in immediate danger of suicide to call.
