Brazil's SUS reports 192,000 mental health visits in the first half of 2025
The Ministério da Saúde announced a 20% increase in mental health appointments compared to 2023 and a R$ 2.25 billion investment in psychosocial care.
The Sistema Único de Saúde recorded roughly 192,000 mental health appointments in the first six months of 2025, a 20% increase over the same period in 2023. The official release attributes part of the rise to expanded investment in the Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (RAPS), the country's community-based mental health network.
The announcement coincided with Dia Mundial de Saúde Mental and outlined commitments to expand CAPS (Centros de Atenção Psicossocial) coverage, especially in underserved municipalities.
