India launches enhanced Tele-MANAS app with multilingual UI, chatbot, and emergency module

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda announced the upgrade on World Mental Health Day 2025.

The expanded Tele-MANAS app — first released in late 2024 — now offers a multilingual interface, an in-app chatbot, and an emergency module to guide users through acute crises and connect them to local responders.

The announcement positions digital tools as a way to extend the programme's reach into rural districts where in-person specialist care is sparse, with the explicit caveat that the chatbot is a triage and information tool, not a substitute for clinical care.
